Meet the Patrons

Eiriol has many patrons which support the organisation. Our Patrons are very important to us here at Eiriol. Please find below a small summary of what their professions and their role within the community. As you can see Eiriol’s Patron’s are from numerous backgrounds and share a wide range of experience and knowledge.

Dr Naomi Wright

Paediatric Surgery Registrar

It is a great honour to be a Patron for Eiriol.  I am a Paediatric Surgery Registrar and have just been awarded the first Royal College of Surgeons Research Fellowship on Global Surgery in order to undertake pioneering research on children’s surgery in Africa. Utilising an innovative crowd-sourcing technique I have recruited over one hundred surgeons from across sub-Saharan Africa to collectively undertake the largest prospective cohort study on Paediatric Surgery in this region of the world. Results will be used to advocate for enhanced children’s surgical services in sub-Saharan Africa where they are desperately needed; at present up to 94% of children do not have access to safe, affordable surgical care and hence either die or suffer long-term disability from conditions that are operable and survivable in the UK. The study also aims to identify cost-effective interventions to improve survival and to help enhance research capacity amongst surgeons and allied health professionals.
